A contemporary home built around heritage pieces

This New Delhi residence was designed as a full turnkey project, but with a specific brief: the shell should stay light and contemporary, and the family’s collection of antiques and Indian craft should do the talking. Eagle Decor took the home from bare structure to a finished, furnished space where white walls, warm marble floors, and clean recessed lighting act as a quiet backdrop for richly detailed, characterful objects.

A layered material language

The palette pairs a crisp contemporary base with warm, traditional accents. Cream and grey upholstery and pale marble keep the rooms open and airy, while walnut and rosewood joinery, brass and copper, checkered marble flooring, and rust-toned drapery add warmth and depth. The result reads as collected over time rather than styled all at once.

Living and lounging spaces

The main living room anchors the home — a pair of soft grey sofas set around a hand-carved gold-wood coffee table, with charcoal suede ottomans and contemporary Indian art on the walls. A second, brighter lounge continues the theme, mixing a modern sofa with the family’s antique carved settee and armchairs, tied together by patterned rugs and rust drapes.

Craft as the centrepiece

Across the home, individual pieces are treated as focal points. A large brass repoussé door panel is mounted as wall art above a carved settee; a mirrored walnut drinks cabinet with silverware defines the home bar over a checkered marble floor; and a walnut-and-glass staircase leads down to a lounge where brass and copper matka pots and a dense gallery wall bring in texture and history.

Private quarters

The master bedroom keeps the same restrained-contemporary approach as the living spaces, softened for rest. An antique walnut roll-top writing desk and twin black urn lamps sit against pale walls, a quilted beige bed takes centre stage, and a deep-red floral rug grounds the room with warmth.
